The Snodhurst Project — contemporary kitchen with island, herringbone floor and family dogs, Walderslade

The Snodhurst Project

A striking combination of bold architectural design, luxurious materials and warm natural tones, this contemporary kitchen has been designed to make a statement while remaining effortlessly inviting.

The cabinetry features a bespoke Scivaro Slate slab door, chosen for its rich texture and deep charcoal finish. Clean, uninterrupted lines are emphasised by black Gola rails, creating a sleek handleless aesthetic that allows the distinctive surface of the cabinetry to take centre stage. A black granite sink continues the dark, minimal palette, sitting almost seamlessly within the surrounding design.

At the heart of the space, an impressive island combines Calacatta Gold quartz with the dramatic Scivaro Slate cabinetry. The quartz brings light and movement into the scheme, with its delicate veining providing a beautiful contrast against the darker finishes. A waterfall end further showcases the stone and gives the island a strong, sculptural quality.

Extending from the island, a bespoke raised breakfast bar finished in matching Scivaro Slate creates a second layer within the design. The contrasting heights and materials visually separate the preparation and social areas, transforming the island into a multifunctional centrepiece for cooking, dining and entertaining.

The Calacatta Gold is continued across the splashback, introducing another expanse of beautifully veined stone and providing a lighter backdrop to the dramatic wall cabinetry. Integrated appliances and carefully concealed storage maintain the kitchen's clean, linear appearance, while subtle lighting beneath the cabinetry adds depth and warmth.

Underfoot, classic herringbone flooring introduces natural character and texture, softening the contemporary lines of the kitchen and connecting it beautifully with the wider living space. Rich cognac brown leather furniture adds another layer of warmth, its earthy tones complementing the flooring while creating a sophisticated contrast against the charcoal cabinetry.

The result is a kitchen defined by contrast and balance — dark and light, contemporary and timeless, dramatic yet welcoming. A sophisticated open-plan space designed not only to be admired, but to be lived in.
